Andersen window repair in Indianapolis
We repair and replace Andersen windows across the Indianapolis metro, and we are an Andersen Certified Contractor. Most of the Andersen work we do is repair, because Andersen windows are worth repairing and because Andersen supports its older product lines with parts longer than most manufacturers do.
If you have Andersen units that have fogged, stuck, or stopped latching, you almost certainly do not need to replace them.
What usually goes wrong on an Andersen window
Fogged glass. The most common call by a distance. The sealed glass unit holds an insulating gas between two panes, held in by a seal around the edge, and that seal has a working life. When it fails, moisture gets between the panes and you get haze and streaking that will not wipe off from either side. On an Andersen unit the sash and frame are usually in excellent condition, so we replace the glass and leave everything else alone.
Casement operators and hinges. Cranks strip, operators seize, hinges bind. These are parts, and on Andersen units they are usually still obtainable and matched to the series.
Gliding door rollers and hardware. A patio door that drags or will not lock is nearly always a roller, a track or a latch rather than a door.
Rot behind the cladding. On older clad-wood units — Andersen’s and every other manufacturer’s — the wood core behind the exterior cladding can take on water and rot while the outside still looks sound. It is worth having looked at if a window of that age is sticking, or if you can see staining on the interior casing. Caught early it is a repair.
Weatherstripping. Perished weatherstrip is the usual cause of the draft that prompts the call, and it is the cheapest fix on this page.
Repair or replace an Andersen window
Sound sash and frame with a fogged pane: replace the glass unit. There is no argument for tearing out a well-made window because its seal failed.
Failed operator, hinge, roller or lock: replace the part.
Rot confined to the sill or lower rail: cut it out and splice in matched material.
Frame rotted through and structurally gone: replacement, and we will tell you that plainly. We install new Andersen units among others when replacement is the right answer.
Why the certification matters here
Mostly for parts. Andersen product lines run back decades and the hardware changed between them, so getting the right operator or glass unit for a 1990s casement depends on identifying the series correctly. That is the part of the job that goes wrong when a general contractor takes it on, and it is the reason a repair that should take an afternoon turns into a replacement quote.
About the manufacturer
Andersen was founded by Danish immigrant Hans Andersen in Hudson, Wisconsin, in 1903, and is now headquartered in Bayport, Minnesota. It introduced the master casement window in 1932, the first completely assembled window unit in the industry, and has grown into the largest window and door manufacturer in North America. Its 400 Series remains the most widely specified wood and clad-wood line in the country.
