Sliding and patio doors get used more than almost any other door in the house, so rollers, tracks, locks and seals wear out long before the door itself does. In most cases we can make a hard-to-open, drafty or foggy patio door work like new again for far less than replacing it. Window Makeover repairs sliding glass doors, French patio doors and gliding doors across Indianapolis, Carmel, Fishers, Noblesville, Westfield, Zionsville and the rest of Central Indiana.

Common sliding and patio door problems we fix

  • Hard to slide or stuck. Worn or broken rollers and a dirty or bent track are the usual cause. We replace the rollers, clean and true the track, and adjust the panel so it glides with one hand.
  • Won’t lock or latch. Handles, mortise locks and keepers wear out or fall out of line. We replace the hardware and re-align the door so it latches securely.
  • Foggy or cracked glass. When the seal on an insulated glass panel fails, moisture gets between the panes. We replace just the glass unit and keep the door frame.
  • Drafts and water getting in. Tired weatherstripping, a worn sill or a door that has dropped out of square lets air and water in. New weatherstripping and an adjustment usually stop it.
  • Rotted wood. On wood and clad-wood patio doors, rot often starts at the bottom of the panel or the sill. Small areas can be cut out and rebuilt; we’ll tell you honestly if the door is past saving.
  • Screen door problems. Bent frames, torn screens and broken screen rollers can all be repaired or replaced.

Repair or replace your patio door?

Repair is usually the better value when the frame is solid and square and the problem is rollers, hardware, glass or seals. Replacement makes sense when the frame is rotted through, badly warped, or the door is an older single-pane unit you want to upgrade for comfort. During a free in-home estimate we’ll look at the whole door and give you both options when both are reasonable.

  4. Repair day. Once parts are in, many sliding door repairs are done in a single visit.

Sliding door repair questions

Can you fix a sliding door that is hard to open?

Yes. It’s one of the most common patio door problems. It’s usually worn rollers or a damaged track, and both can be replaced without replacing the door.

Can you replace just the glass in a patio door?

Yes. If the glass is foggy or cracked we replace the insulated glass unit and reuse the existing frame and panel.

Do you repair French patio doors too?

Yes. We repair hinged French patio doors as well as sliding and gliding doors, including hinges, hardware, weatherstripping, glass and rotted wood.

How much does sliding door repair cost?

It depends on the part that failed and your door’s brand. Rollers and hardware cost much less than a full door replacement. We’ll give you an exact price at your free estimate.
